2024 TCC Wearables Workshop

Wearable System for Space Suit Glove Force Sensing Application

The force-sensing gloves for astronauts measure the forces applied to the hand and contribute to suggesting parameters for custom gloves that minimize hand injuries occurring in pressurized environments.

UMN force-sensing glove team used custom-made sensors instead of existing commercial sensors to enhance compatibility with the glove fabric and improve wearing comfort. Additionally, various conductive threads were tested to minimize friction with the fabric and ensure smooth current flow. Durability was strengthened by connecting the threads to the wires. We won the "Best Simulation, Model, or Design" award at the 2024 TCC Wearables Workshop & University Challenge, hosted by NASA in Houston.
